A migraine affects every aspect of your life. I get debilitating migraines 15+ days a month. Although I have a great doctor and preventive plan it still takes a toll on my body, mood, activity level and overall quality of life. I lose the ability to see, think or function. To know what I want to do, but physically can’t, or I know what I want to say but can’t find the words. This takes a toll on your mental health, as well.
The slightest movement, smell, etc can trigger it. I literally feel like my head could explode. Light increases the pain, as well as movement. Oh and did I forget how it upsets my stomach and I vomit for days on end. The pain in my head is unbearable. It feels like shavings of glass embedded into my head. That’s just a few of the lovely side effects from a migraine. Sarcasm intended! This goes on for hours, days and sometimes weeks. My longest migraine was 22 days!!
When people see you see smiling on the outside they think you are okay. That there is nothing wrong with you, but it in no way shows you how I feel on the inside. What upsets me the most is people who say take an aspirin. You have no freaking idea how we migraine sufferers feel. Ugh! If it was only that easy by taking an aspirin to avoid days and weeks of pain, trust me I would have done it by now. Probably over half the migraine sufferers of the world would have. Right? but that is not the case. If they could just walk in my shoes for one day. They would soon change their minds. I promise.
Although, I cannot predict how I will feel day to day but I will continue to set bite-size goals and live in the moment while living with chronic illness/pain.
Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me and shared your migraine horror stories or showed me support. I am thankful for your kindness. God bless each of you!
